Abstract
As of April 2019, 59% percent of Americans surveyed by Gallup (2020) responded that they are a fan of the NFL. If it isn’t clear enough that Americans love football, in the same article Gallup (2020) reports that as of 2017, 37% say football is their favorite sport, with basketball in a distant second at 11%. There are 32 NFL teams, each with 53 players on a team. There are two ways that NFL teams can build their roster. One way is to sign players whose contracts have expired. The other way NFL teams build their roster is through the NFL draft. In total, there are seven rounds that make up the NFL draft. Later rounds in the draft will have a few extra picks awarded to teams based on the NFL’s compensatory pick formula. Picks can also be traded between teams, but in the end, just over two hundred college football players will have their names called during the NFL draft.
