Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the performance between the home games and the games on the road, both for the starters and the non-starters of the UNI Men's Basketball Team for the 1992 - 1993 Missouri Valley Conference regular season games. The subjects of this study were the 13 players of the UNI Men's Basketball team that participated in the 1992 - 1993 Missouri Valley Conference regular season games. During this period, which started on the 3rd of January, 1993 and was completed on the 1st of March, 1993, the Panthers played 18 games. Nine of these (home) games took place in the UNI-Dome, and nine on the road. The comparison of the performance of the subjects of the study was based on 2-point field goal percentage, 3-point field goal percentage, free-throw percentage, points per minute played, rebounds per minute played, assists per minute played, turnovers per minute played, blocked shots per minute played, and steals per minute played. Independent samples t-test were used in order to determine if there was a significant difference in the: (a) Performance of the starters between the home games and the games on the road, (b) Performance of the non-starters between the home games and the games on the road, and (c) Overall performance between the starters and the non-starters. The significance level was set at .05. The results of this study indicate that the starters scored significantly more points than the non-starters regardless of the site of the game. There were no other differences in the performance between the starters and the non-starters at home games or games on the road. In conclusion, both the starters and the non-starters of this particular team performed equally at home games and games on the road, although the starters scored more points per minute than the non-starters.
