Abstract

The current trend in education is for more Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, or STEM based curriculum. STEM occupations are critical to Iowa's economic competitiveness because of the direct ties to innovation, productivity and economic growth. On September 6, 2011 Iowa's Governor, Terry Branstad, announced the members who will serve on the Governor's STEM Advisory Council. This group was created to advise the Governor's office on ways to improve STEM education, STEM innovation and economic development. The new council, along with the 6 regional STEM hubs, will work to grow Iowa's commitment to bolstering STEM education, STEM innovation and to better position Iowa's young people and the state's economy for the future.
