Abstract

This study has analyzed the merits of class piano instruction for the purpose of suggesting effective curriculum and group teaching technics. When compared with the aims of private instruction, the goals and purposes of the class approach placed more emphasis upon group dynamics as a means of developing better musical understanding.

Suggestions were offered pertaining to grouping, class management, goals, approaches, and course content for pre-piano musicianship classes, for piano classes comprised of seven and eight year old children, and for adult piano classes. Graded lists of music materials were compiled as a guide for instruction. Desirable equipment and floor plans for class piano studios were also included.
