America is one of the four sculpture groups on the Albert Memorial meant to represent a continent. It was designed and sculpted by John Bell (1811-1895). In the center of the pedestal stands a bison posed to charge. On top of the bison rides a Native American with a feathered headdress. The front corners of the pedestal show two standing European women, one pointing forward to symbolize the move towards the future. On the back right corner, a nearly naked European man sits with a rifle in his hand.
