Abstract

This purpose of this research project is to investigate why obesity rates are growing so dramatically in Saudi Arabia, and then explore what kinds of culturally appropriate health promotion programs could be developed to address this public health epidemic, particularly for adolescents. Ever since obesity became one the most serious issues in Saudi Arabia, the main focus was on adults. However, just as in other parts of the world, childhood obesity carries high numbers and they keep increased rapidly. Nevertheless, as Al Shehri, Al Fattani and Al Alwan (2013) explained, it may be very difficult to access national data about exact numbers due to a lack of research in this field and limited systematic government data.
