Abstract
The aim of this paper is to examine the efficacy of animal assisted therapy in treating symptoms both independently and as a supportive intervention. Animals have been companions to humans for millennia, allowing close bonds to form. These bonds allow for a unique opportunity for nonmedicated therapies in the home, clinical environment, and more. Studies were examined to gather data and perspective on the efficacy based on symptoms and type of animal. The most prominent limitation of the studies was found to be small sample sizes. A factor common among many due to the nature of the interventions and need for cooperation.
