Open Access Graduate Research Paper

Abstract

This project has been completed to improve the quality of instruction of the biology students at Iowa City West High School. A curricular unit covering plants has been designed keeping in mind the National Science Education Standards, the curricular benchmarks established by the Iowa City Community School District and the current research on how people learn. Applicable research that supports the inquiry approach to teaching biology, an outline of the daily events that occur during the course of the curricular unit, and examples of the use of inquiry teaching styles are included throughout this work.
