Abstract
The National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is an independent organization that encourages teachers to voluntarily examine and reflect on their teaching. Twelve teaching standards are used for the evaluation. For Adolescence and Young Adulthood Science the standards are to show teachers:
■ Understand Students;
■ Understand Science;
■ Understand Science Teaching;
■ Engage the Science Learner;
■ Sustain a Learning Environment;
■ Promote Diversity, Equity & Fairness;
■ Foster Science Inquiry;
■ Make connections in Science;
■ Assess for Results;
■ Reflect on Teaching and Learning;
■ Develop Collegiality & Leadership; and
■ Connect with Families & Community.
