Abstract
Over the course of my teaching career, I have experimented with various teaching strategies. I have taken the benefits of each style to create my own teaching style that I feel reaches the learning styles of my students. I have found, through my experiences, students learn best when given cross-curricular experiences on which to tie their knowledge. The more real-life and important the information is to my students; the better they learn and retain the content taught. After a short hiatus from teaching to raise children, I began once again to explore cross-curricular, project based learning. I started to develop lessons based more and more on open-ended inquiry. Upon starting the Masters of Arts in Science Education program at the University of Northern Iowa, I learned that the educational pendulum was swinging in the direction I naturally had begun to explore. Thus, I chose to create five specific lessons that fit my curriculum using high levels of knowledge processing and real-life experiences.
