Abstract
The purpose of this study is to conduct a comprehensive literature review that examines the primary implications of the economic crisis for donor motives to give to nonprofit organizations and cultivation best practices.
The UNI athletic department experienced a budget cut from the state of Iowa for 2009 that amounted to an immediate $150,000 and will foresee another $100,000 cut each year over the next five years. Athletic administration is currently developing a plan to adapt to the new changes in the budget.
Resourcefulness will be expected from employees, programs may be asked to rearrange their budgets, staff may experience salary and job cuts and there will be a stronger emphasis on increased fundraising. Panther Scholarship Club staff and volunteers are now charged with raising additional money so that student athletes can continue to receive scholarships. In order to be successful, understanding donor cultivation and relationship management best practices will aid the Panther Scholarship Club in their fundraising efforts.
