Abstract
The purposes of this study are to explore who the pioneers of youth related delinquency theories are and to examine these theories in depth to identify their importance to society as a whole and to discuss the contributions these theories have made as well as future directions of these theories pertaining to criminology and sociology. Also explored in this study are the many factors that contribute to youth becoming delinquent and characteristics of delinquent behavior.
This study was a literature review of theorists that explored and researched theories pertaining to delinquency. After researching the work of these theorists, their findings were related to delinquency among youth up to the age of 18.
Exploring these pioneers of youth related delinquency theories and the theories allows society to gain a better understanding of delinquent behaviors and delinquency as a whole. It helps us gain an understanding as to how and why delinquent behaviors begin, which provides a foundation on which researchers, sociologists, and criminologists can begin to understand how to address delinquent behaviors. While this study focuses on delinquency theories pertaining to youth, it also allows us understand and make direct correlations to delinquency among adults as well.
