Abstract
The focus of the present study is to describe the relationship between leisure and spirituality in the process of reviewing related literature and speculating about the quote from the 46th Psalm, "Have leisure and know that I am God," using a philosophical method (an argument style specifically). Although the argument will be based on a line of Psalm from the Old Testament, the intention of this argument is not to critique or interpret the tradition of Biblical thoughts. This will entail looking at four key points: 1) mystical and transcendental experiences; 2) the contrast between the classic Greek concept of leisure and the modem concept of leisure; 3) the link between virtue and contemplation in order to understand the origin of leisure; and 4) the interpretations of the higher consciousness in leisure activities. My intention for this argument has not been to produce something definitive about religion, but to make a preliminary conceptual exploration of relationships between contemporary leisure and spirituality.
