Abstract
Recent studies have shown that cardiovascular disease is a factor in 54% of all deaths (Kreplin, 1981), and that youngsters are not physically fit. Based upon these studies and others, it is likely that college-age students are not implementing good exercise habits. The purpose of this study was to determine the exercise habits of college-age students.
The design of the study was quasi-experimental. A researcher-generated exercise questionnaire (Appendix A) was constructed and administered to 112 subjects in 8 different summer school classes at the University of Northern Iowa. There were 41 males and 71 females who volunteered to complete the exercise questionnaire. Subjects were asked to limit their responses to current physical activities. Results indicated that college-age students lack consistency, frequency, and intensity in their exercise routines.
