Abstract
So many conflicting opinions have been advanced about the popularity of the Newbery books with children, the grade level they are best suited for, and the value of encouraging children to read these books. The National Book Awards for Children have caused less controversy, perhaps because they have not been around as long. Yet, the same criticisms and comments could be made about these books also.
