Abstract
Mathematics classes have traditionally been teacher-centered classes, particularly at the junior and senior high level. Lecture with a few illustrations has been the standard method used by teachers. In general, students want to simply apply an algorithm so they can finish their drill- and-practice assignment as quickly as possible. Recently, there has been a renewed interest in activity-based methods, especially the integration of manipulative activities into the mathematics classroom.
