Abstract
The annual incidence of pediatric cancers in the United States is approximately 12 per 100,000 children and six to seven thousand cases are diagnosed each year. Cancer accounts for the greatest number of disease-related deaths in children under 16 years of age, exceeded only by accidents. Fifty to sixty percent of cancer patients achieve a 5-year disease-free survival and possible cure (Ross, 1984; Perry & Flanagan, 1986; Spinetta & Deasy-Spinetta, 1981).
