Abstract

A group of educators at Stanford University, under the direction of Dwight w. Allen, developed microteaching and the technical skills approach to teacher education as they attempted to analyze teaching into well-defined components that could be practiced, taught, evaluated, and controlled (Gardner and Bartholomew, 1969, p. 45). Microteaching has since been experimentally incorporated into the teacher education program at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
