Abstract

Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, and Agatha Christie had something in common. All received the majority of their education at home. Joining these prominent people are other equally famous individuals. At present, nearly a quarter of a million school-age children are being taught in the home (Common, 1986). The reasons parents are choosing to educate their children at home are varied. Those who home school come from many walks of life. Some are highly educated, while others have only the equivalence of a high school diploma. Whatever the level of education, these parents are instructing their children at home.
