Abstract
This article discusses the importance of the parents' role in the development of their children's emerging literacy. This role is described in a review of literature and further explored in three sessions with young parents from an alternative high school. During each session, a book and a related activity were presented. The students received a copy of the modeled book and materials so they could do follow-up activities with their children. The three sessions showed the students how they could participate in their child's emerging literacy.
