Abstract

The study on the status of school media personnel in Iowa for the school year 1977-1978 yielded data concerning age, race, sex, level of education, and salary. The researcher used the information found on school media personnel from the Basic Educational Data Survey for the population of the study. The data gathered was tabulated and statistically analyzed. The mean age of school media personnel was found to be 42.6 years and the median age was found to be 40.0 years. For all levels, 88 percent of the school media personnel were females and 12 percent were males. At the building level, 88 percent of the personnel were females and 12 percent were males. At the district level, 71 percent of the personnel were females and 29 percent were males. Ninety-nine and one-half percent of the personnel were white, 0.2 percent were black, and 0.2 percent were of other races. Twenty-nine percent of the personnel held master's degrees, 65 percent held bachelor's degrees, and 6 percent were non-certified in media-related fields. At the building level, the mean salary for personnel was $12,884 and the median salary was $13,280. At the district level, the mean salary for personnel was $19,668 and the median salary was $22,540.
