Abstract

Educational assessment is in a process of evolution. Old models are being seriously questioned; new models are being developed (Herman, 1992). One reason for this concern is that in too many instances and over too long a period of time, assessment has been directed toward finding out what is wrong, a deficit model that Goodman ( 1992) describes as the "disease" metaphor (Hill, 1993).
