Abstract

Since the late 1950's, American education has been undergoing a critical evaluation and review. This review has brought about some changes in emphasis and an upgrading in science curricula. The American Institute of Biological Sciences, supported by the National Science Foundation, accepted major responsibility for the field of biology and established the Biological Science Curriculum Study (BSCS). H. Bentley Glass., Chairman of BSCS, states: "The aim of the Biological Science Curriculum Study is to place biological knowledge in its fullest modem perspective. To accomplish this aim, a program of research, writing, testing, and evaluation was inaugurated.
