Abstract

Production of plays and participation in plays should be integral parts of the junior high school program today, and there is a need for a critical analysis of plays of value and worth to the age-group that comprises the enrollment in a junior high school (ages 12-14). Lists of plays are available for the senior high school and for the elementary school but few studies have been made of plays suitable for the junior high school. There is no known analysis of such plays; hence, the need for this study. To know what is meant by plays of value and worth, criteria have been established for purposes of this study. Selected one-act plays have been analyzed in terms of each of these criteria and on this basis are recommended for use in junior high school.
