Abstract

As the aerospace manufacturing industry of the New York Metropolitan Area becomes more deeply involved in industrial, scientific, and military activities, it seems reasonable to expect a corresponding growth in the knowledge and understanding of that industry by the engineering and education professions alike . The engineering profession would require an accurate description of the technical character, while the education profession would be concerned with developing a better understanding of the educational ramifications of this new industry. A study of the entire industry would have required the use of resources beyond the power of the writer. However, it was decided after preliminary investigation that a study of the personnel structure of one important segment of the industry would be practical. This segment, staffed by personnel who specialized in the formulation and application of instrumentation science and technology to the problems of aeronautics and astronautics, had not heretofore been studied.
