Abstract

This thesis exhibition is a culmination, a gathering, of my beginnings as an artist as well as the evidence of the chaos of creative growth. It is an attempt to show the fullness and depth that I have experienced in the making of these works. I use Audre Lorde's words as a title for this exhibition because art-making is work that I love with my strongest feelings; the show is evidence of my confusion and struggling with what I have found most powerful and satisfying to create. It is a measuring and a showing of the work from this past year that has proved most important, most difficult, most loved. The exhibition is a work in itself-an installation. It is a space created both to overwhelm the viewers and also to give them places to slow down and pay close attention. It is an attempt to create a space that echoes the questions, decisions, conversations, drawings, paintings, and photographs I have made, taken part in, and sorted through.
