Abstract
Several years ago the Des Moines Public School System provided time in their secondary school schedule for a homeroom period. The purpose of this period was to enable the classroom teacher to handle pupil administrative details, gather personal information, and offer both personal and group guidance to the members of the homeroom. Since that time, conflicting opinions as to the value of this homeroom period have arisen. The opinions expressed have been varied and have been based on limited observation. No experimental evidence has been presented to indicate whether or not the homerooms were meeting the needs for which they were intended.
