Abstract

Sarah Brindley, mezzo-soprano, performed a recital in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Music in Vocal Performance on Friday, March 23, 2007 in Davis Hall of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at the University of Northern Iowa. The program included compositions by Schumann, Bellini, Ives, and Rossini. This abstract provides a brief history of the composers presented as well as short discussions of the analytical and stylistic elements important to the music performed. I will provide a brief discussion of the Romantic period, as four out of the five composers discussed in this abstract composed during that era.
