Abstract

A neat, marble-columned school building stood on a hill overlooking the bustling main street and the neat, well-kept homes of Hometown, Iowa. The dedication ceremonies for the building had been held late the previous spring, and the bright, well-lighted classrooms were ready for the fall influx of students. The school building had been the fulfillment of many years of dreaming, planning, and working. Mr. Jones, the superintendent, had spent countless hours in laying out the floor plan just as he thought it should be. Interested citizens had offered their suggestions. which had been graciously accepted, and, for the most part, graciously ignored. Suggestions made by teachers had been treated in a similar manner. However, everyone admitted that it was a beautiful building, and "after all, Mr. Jones had been in the school business for a long time, and he ought to know what was best."
