Abstract

It has been the author's experience that music of quality is recognized and enjoyed by students in the schools in which he has taught. There is no reason to believe that these schools are unique. Music of quality is easier to perform than music which has little or nothing to say. The performer's attention becomes focused on the message of the music and he has a tendency to rise above the mechanical problems of producing the sounds on his instrument. Because many of the selections available to small ensembles of brass instruments do not move either the students or the teachers, there is a need for good music.
