Abstract

Many people are interested in the industrial-arts program in Hawaii, especially since it has become the fiftieth state. Because of the interest, and since the background of the writer included eighteen years of residence in Hawaii and five years of professional preparation in the field of industrial arts it was decided that a status study would be made to see what was going on in the industrial-arts program in Hawaii.

It was the purpose of this study (1) to determine teacher qualifications as to college preparation and experience; (2) to determine what type of shops were most common such as unit shops and general shops; (3) to determine what types of courses are offered such as woodworking, drawing, and metals, and (4) to ascertain pedagogical methods.
