Project Summary

Students from the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance have partnered up with the directors from the YMCA of Black Hawk County to help plan their annual Healthy Kids Day event happening on Saturday, April 21st. Healthy Kids Day is the YMCA’s national initiative to improve the health and well being of kids, every Y across the country presents a day full of unique and engaging activities that promote active minds and healthy bodies. It is a day full of fun featuring lessons, camps and clinics in the morning and closing with interactive booths in the late afternoon. The interactive booths consist of bringing surrounding businesses and organizations around the Cedar Valley in to host their own engaging activity and interact with the youth and their families. A few examples of the many interactive booths include the Waterloo Fire Department providing tours of their vehicles and providing safety information to the youth, Freshiis providing nutritional samples, Sheriff Department doing fingerprinting with the youth, as well as one time performances done by local dance and cheerleading teams. The day will be very beneficial to the youth as they are physically active and are learning new things throughout the day. As the school year comes to an end shortly, this is the nonprofit organizations way to kick off summer by stimulating their body and minds to grow. Us students are working close with the YMCA planning this big event in hopes to make it very successful. The YMCA of Black Hawk has decided to grow this event even more by featuring new unique ideas and by making it a day full of events instead of a couple hours. We are assisting in calling and finalizing businesses to be present for the booths, facilitating when necessary during the event and helping with many other tasks.
