Abstract
This vignette is part of a larger work that explores the complex relationship between the speaker and her father. As a hybrid work, the piece is poetic and lyrical, as well as interacting with the corresponding photograph. This vignette focuses on the speaker witnessing her father cry for the first time as he suffers through his grief at the loss of his father. The speaker and her father have had a strained relationship, oftentimes because of his refusal to show emotion, and her ability to show too much emotion from his point of view. This piece focuses on the speaker’s search to discover where her father’s suffering hides and why he keeps it locked away.
