Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine how the accuracy and precision of Bluetooth localization techniques are affected at ranges up to 100 meters. Bluetooth is commonly used with indoor localization at ranges of 10 meters or less. However, I wished to examine different localization techniques at higher ranges, and potentially find a technique or combination of techniques to have a precision of less than 10 cm. This led me to search for devices that had the capability to achieve my desired results. However, I soon realized that such devices are either hard to come by, or very expensive. Therefore, I decided to create my own BLE tag that could meet my specific requirements. I found that developing a device is very complex and comes with many of its own challenges which I will be discussing in this poster.
