Description

Alt text: A vintage postcard titled "Life's little tragedies" at the top, with the text "In three acts" at the bottom. It features three stacked panels. Panel 1, captioned "Skirt," shows an fashionably dressed man and woman in an outdoor scene. They appear to be in a grassy area with a tree behind them. The woman is dressed in red, with a large red hat that holds an exaggeratedly large hat pin, the size of a spear. The man takes notice of the woman, who is looking away from him, as he walks. Panel 2, captioned "Flirt," shows the same scene. This time the man takes off his hat as if to introduce himself to the woman. The woman is now looking at the man, and her oversize hat pin is pointed directly at him. Panel 3, captioned "Hurt," shows the woman, wide-eyed and with the hat pin now in her hands, piercing the man through the stomach and out the back of him. He has an expression of shock on his face. Below the bottom of the third panel is the text, "Copyright 1909 by Walter Wellman. Series L." An elaborate artist's signature is in the lower left corner of the third panel. A band below the postcard has the text "Palczewski Suffrage Postcard Archive."
