Abstract
Music therapy is a multifaceted discipline that has been studied in the treatment of mental and physical disease. Studies have shown efficacy in cases of adult headache and chronic pain as well as promising results in children (Oelkers-Ax et al., 2008). The purpose of this thesis was to analyze current literature on the management of migraine pain through the psychotherapeutic, non-pharmacological method of music therapy as compared to other psychotherapeutic and lifestyle approaches. Through this process conclusions will be made on whether music therapy may be a viable option compared to various other treatment methods through analysis of current research results. Suggestions for further research will also be identified through identification of gaps in current research.
