Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the specific genetic mechanisms and genes involved in bipolar disorder. Since there is not currently a clear set of important genes known for bipolar disorder, this thesis will be a review of the current literature on several candidate genes that have been shown to have some significance in the disorder. This thesis will also look into the potential of medical health professionals, focusing on genetic counselors, in the field of mental disorders. It will also delve into the treatment of these mental disorders, with the focus being on bipolar disorder
