Abstract

Nike is a global sporting goods company. They sell athletic shoes, sporting goods items such as basketballs, power lifting weights, and clothing for athletic, athleisure or casual wear. They also sell other equipment for sports such as golf bags or volleyballs. They also offer services in the athletic space. One such example would be their Nike Run Club app. This is kind of a mix of social media meets digital trainer meets GPS running. It tracks your runs and the runs of others so that you can compare progress.

As they themselves disclose in the competition section of their 2023 10k: “We compete internationally with a significant number of athletic and leisure footwear companies, athletic and leisure apparel companies, sports equipment companies and large companies having diversified lines of athletic and leisure footwear, apparel and equipment”. Due to this, it is fair to say that they are competing with companies such as Under Armour, Adidas and Puma. They are also competing with companies such as Li Ning, Asics and Hoka. Brands sell athletic footware or equipment that may rely on other companies heavily to sell their products (brick and mortar stores) are also competitors too.
