Abstract

The purpose of this literature review is to provide insight into the various causes of overuse injuries due to over-hand throwing (OHT). More specifically, this review will focus on the mechanisms that cause overuse injuries to the elbow joint (EJ) and shoulder joint (SJ). This will be accomplished by identifying the phases of the OHT in order to answer the following questions: what are the phases of the OHT; what are mechanisms of injury at the SJ; what are mechanisms of injury at the EJ; how do we prevent overuse injuries at the SJ and EJ. This literature review will also discuss methods of rehabilitation for injuries experienced due to OHT.
