Abstract
The NBPTS Portfolio option allows graduate students the opportunity to fulfill the portfolio requirements for NBPTS certification in their area of teaching as one of the requirements for the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) Masters in Arts (MA) Science Education program. In order for a teacher to achieve National Board Certification (NBC) they must qualify as an established educator, successfully write four entries, and exhibit a vast understanding of their content area on a computer administered test, all based on NBPTS. The requirements for completing the portfolio creative component of the UNI MA in Science Education program, is not as lengthy. First, a student must complete a written product that includes three of the four written entries while following all NBPTS guidelines. Second, after completion of the written product, the student must conduct a PowerPoint portfolio presentation. Both the written product and PowerPoint are reviewed by the graduate advisor and an Outside Reader. The student does not have to apply for National Board Certification to meet the MA in Science Education program requirements.
