Abstract
Perhaps the biggest hurdle in education today is student engagement. Students who are engaged have meaningful interactions with the classroom and are able to internalize what they have learned and use it in their lives (Newman, 1992). This has far reaching effects, not only for the classroom but for the school and community as well. When students are engaged attendance rates, homework completion and classroom participation increase. It is no wonder that engagement is one of the most used educational buzzwords.
