Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate characteristics of highly successful varsity high school football programs from the past ten years, 1989-1998 in terms of wins and losses in Iowa. Successful programs were identified tor this study as programs that met the following requirements: (a) teams that have been in the state playoffs five or more times, (b) teams that have maintained above a .500 winning percentage in the past ten years.
