Abstract
The premise that weight training is a significant factor contributing to improved levels of performance for most athletes goes virtually unchallenged today. This is evidenced by the rapid increase of mandatory attendance weight programs for intercollegiate athletes as well as the views of leading exercise physiologists who have stated that strength is an underlying principle which enhances an athlete's ability to improve effectiveness of body movements related to their sport (Burke, 1967; Wescott, 1987).
