Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between yoga and the effects it has on young adult women and if it is an effective treatment for young adult women to combat mental health symptoms. This study is a quantitative, secondary study using data from the 2019 BRFSS (Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Study). In this study, a sample of 13,045 young adult women ages 18-25 years old. Study results showed yoga can impact mental health symptoms at a small scale. Results were not statistically significant, therefore, the effect of yoga affecting mental health for women is still uncertain. This is most likely due to small study samples of young women doing yoga. Results have shown that White, non-Hispanic women have better outcomes compared to other races. Implications of this study have shown there are potential benefits that yoga can be a better treatment option for young adult women with poor mental health. There is more to learn about the effects of yoga on young adult women struggling with poor mental health.
