Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the risks and benefits of hormonal and nonhormonal contraception. When individuals are aware of the benefits associated with contraceptives use, they are able to choose the method that best works to ensure their health is maintained and pregnancy is prevented. In this document, vital facts concerning contraceptive use are advanced. Additionally, this document has brought to the front the need for women to be extensively involved in analyzing the pros and cons of the available contraceptives and therefore settle on the method that best serves them and does not compromise their health.

This study is significant in the sense that it helps demystify the myths concerning use of contraceptives. Use of oral contraception is not limited to prevention of pregnancy. Many women take contraceptives in order to benefit from the non-contraceptive benefits they offer such as reduce the risk of ovarian, endometrial, and colorectal cancer (Huber, Bentz, Ott, & Tempfer, 2008).
