Abstract

TILLIE'S CHRISTMAS: EXPOSITION OF A CHILDREN'S BOOK, by Jeanne Anderson. In preparation for writing the children's book, Tillie's Christmas, this study explores the craft of writing in general, as well as the process of writing children's books in particular. Since the resulting book intentionally reflects Christmas traditions as celebrated by second-generation German immigrants on the Iowa prairie in 1900, this paper researches those customs. To confirm the commonality of such ethnic experiences on the Iowa prairie in 1900, several interviews with second-generation German immigrants are included in the study.
