Abstract
Seventy-two Iowa public school library media specialists completed a questionnaire which determined their overall degree of job satisfaction and elicited their reasons for switching from their former positions as classroom teachers to school library services.
An analysis of the data indicated that classroom teachers were more likely to be motivated intrinsically than extrinsically to switch to school library media services and that, although the overall job satisfaction of the school library media specialists was lower than expected, the respondents, having experienced career satisfaction as classroom teachers wanted to continue their careers in education but as school library media specialists rather than as classroom teachers.
