Abstract
This paper presents the utilization of Six Sigma's structured methodology- define, measure, analyze, improve, control (DMAIC) in reducing warranty failures of gasket joints in off highway equipment.. This paper demonstrates the Six Sigma approach in the implementation of improved part handling, storage, assembly processes and design evaluation of gasket joints in drivetrain assemblies. Utilization of Six Sigma and gasket improvement research has resulted in large financial savings in terms of reduced warranty costs in drivetrain assembly and accordingly, an improved customer experience. The structured process improvement approach and tools discussed for could be applied to other problems outside of gasket joints.
