Abstract
Education in America derives from a society that honors success, competition, and achievement. With these components being emphasized in schools there is an unavoidable consequence. 3 A group of students will see themselves or be perceived by others, as losers (Wehlage, 1983). The secondary educational system refers to these students as underachievers, non-achievers, disadvantaged, undermotivated, disaffected, school-alienated, at-risk for failure, and marginal.
