Abstract

Leadership is a topic that generates much interest and research. Fascination with leadership stems, in part, from the growing significance attached to the role of leaders in achieving organizational effectiveness (Renick, Terrell, & Jones, 1985). There is a call for leadership in all segments of our society. Leadership is needed in government, business, education, clubs and organizations. In order for these groups to be effective, they need individuals who can look toward the future while keeping the interest and goals of the group in mind, as well as articulate a vision that will provide a degree of unity and direction (Adams, 1986; Bennis & Nanus, 1985; Burns, 1978; Hagberg, 1994). However, while all leadership has a common purpose, it takes many different forms and manifests itself in a variety of ways.
